If convicted of a “criminal organization” or “crim org” offence, the consequences could be severe. To begin with, criminal organization charges usually accompany other serious offences, such as multi-kilo level drug trafficking and/or firearms offences. The penalties for these crimes are severe; add a crim org conviction and you might suffer a consecutive period of incarceration and have your parole elligibility impacted.
Like multi-kilo drug trafficking case and homicide, criminal organization investigations are resource intensive; usually involving the most sophisticated investigative techniques.
The Criminal Code defines “criminal organization” as a group composed of three or more persons that has as one of its main purposes the facilitation or commission of a serious offence for the financial benefit of the group. A “serious offence” is any indictable offence.
